Announcing Masterclass Event May 17th and First Speaker Locky

As a new addition to the 2019 competition programme, we are delighted to announce a new public Masterclass event called “Still relevant? Marketing With Music Videos In 2019”. This three hour event will look at the art and marketing value of music videos in 2019, examining the challenges filmmakers and artists face in an age of ever shrinking budgets, and the marketing opportunities afforded by social platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo

The event, running from 1.30pm until 5pm at The Lampworks Studio in the Jewellery Quarter and will feature three seminars led by industry professionals with experience in the music video production process. The event is aimed at both music artists and filmmakers and will cover topics such as collaborative creativity, marketing an artist effectively and the tropes and pitfalls of genre.

Award-winning music video director is first speaker

We are delighted to announce that the first session “The Art of the Modern Music Video” will be led by award-winning music video director Locky (a.k.a. Lochlainn McKenna).

Cork-born Locky is the recent recipient of the Kinsale Best New Director Award. His music promo “In My Darkest Moments“ also won Best Low-budget Music Video and Best Cinematography. Most recently, Locky has completed directing duties for the comeback video of boyband megastars, Westlife, and has been signed up by top London agency Kode for commercials and music videos. He also won “Best Music Video” director and the Special Jury prize for “Best Overall Director on the Night” at the ICAD Emerging Director Awards. His video for Daithí’s track “Orange” received a Vimeo Staff Pick at the end of last year and he was recently made a member of the Screen Director’s Guild of Ireland.
